Dine like a Crazy Rich Asian on a (somewhat) Crazy Poor Asian Budget

Dine like a Crazy Rich Asian on a (somewhat) Crazy Poor Asian Budget

written by Michelle Tan August 24, 2018September 12, 2018

Since the premiere of Crazy Rich Asians in Singapore earlier this week, it had everyone in a frenzy. If you left the cinemas wishing you could live like a crazy rich Asian but don’t have the bank account for it, you’re not the only one. Fret not, though – here are a few places to have Crazy Rich Asian meals on a (somewhat) Crazy Poor Asian budget.

1. Art

Osteria Art - Suckling Pig PorchettaOsteria Art - Chocolate & Coffee Profiterole

Essentially a silver service restaurant and bar, Art is one of the best Italian dining establishments you can find in sunny-side Singapore. Combining elegance and intimacy into their dining experience that rivals even those in Milan, Rome, and Florence, this 80-seater osteria celebrates the Italian gastronomic heritage like no other.

Have a stab at their Free Range Chicken Essence with Parmigiano Cheese Tortellini or tuck into the intriguing Bronze Dye Spaghetti with Octopus and Smoked Paprika. These masterpieces will have you ooh-ing and aah-ing before taking your first bite! Did someone say Ferrero Rocher? Art transforms this well-loved Italian confectionery into a feast for the eyes and taste buds. Loops and globes of the famed hazelnut chocolate are adorned with edible gold flakes before being presented to you in true upscale fashion.

The chef focuses his dishes on homely flavours, inviting guests to share them in a casual, family-style setting. Every dish is an original creation unique to Aura but maintains honest and authentic to the ethos of Italian culinary arts.

The menu showcases a wide variety of antipasto, pasta, and wholesome mains that feature the finest and freshest ingredients from the land and the sea. 3. The Halia at Singapore Botanic Gardens

OrangeMarcus©, by 李MarcusGinger Garden 2

Experience the richness of nature at The Halia, one of the most beautiful Halal-certified dining spots in Singapore. In the historic UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the Singapore Botanic Gardens, The Halia is an inviting space with lush foliage complemented by wood-carved tables and open verandas with a menu to match.

For the ultimate treat, we recommend getting the Halia Chilli Crab Spaghettini. You’re sure to find comfort in the warm, tangy-sweet Chilli Crab sauce that covers a bed of al-dente noodles. Those with a sweet tooth can go straight for their Toffee Pudding with Butterscotch and Vanilla Ice Cream, a gooey, toothsome dessert that will make any dessert lover’s heart (and taste buds) go wild!

4. Sabio by the Sea

Atun a la ParillaSeafood Paella V2

Dine like a Spaniard and embrace festive flavours over a striking view at this gorgeous dining spot located in Quayside Isle. Dishing out flavourful creations to get the party started, Sabio by the Sea is an extension of the main outlet at Duxton but celebrates the same Spanish bacchanalia that governs the foundation of this establishment.

The menu, itself, is bold and intense. Conjuring up visions of matadors, evoking Iberian inspired flavours, and leaving a vibrant legacy – the plates here come to life as soon as they hit the table. The Paella Negra, a medley of seafood and squid ink, is the perfect example of what we mean. The savoury flavours come together to bring a dish you’ll be craving for days to come.

Best known for their skillfully prepared dishes, the menu here will have you spoiled for choice.

Relish in The Blue Lotus Signature Chilli Pomelo Crab, where fresh crab is simmered with lemongrass and curry leaves, and with just enough chilli to give it a kick – it’s one creation we can’t get enough of.
