All aboard the sustainability train! Environmentalism and sustainability have been HOT topics in the past year. You might have noticed that people around you have been turning away from plastic straws, and becoming #eatclean advocates. Now, we know what you’re thinking: Ew, organic? Worse, organic vegetables? Well, don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. With Earth Hour and Earth Day right around the corner, we’ve decided to dig into environmentally friendly restaurants that have a foot in the green door.
1. The Summerhouse

Transport yourselves to the enchanted garden restaurant, The Summerhouse! Located in the Singaporean ‘countryside’ Seletar, be awed by the picturesque colonial bungalow the restaurant calls home. The Summerhouse is a farm-to-table restaurant that sources its produce from local farmers and Kelongs (fisheries). Not to mention, 100% of the aromatic herbs used are fresh from their very own edible garden. Dive into a plate of Mud Crab Omelette ($24) for a hearty brunch, or a freshly Smoked Butter Poached Red Snapper Fillet ($42) to fulfill your environmentally friendly dinner desires.
Is your date big on being environmentally friendly? Win some brownie points with The Summerhouse’s magical Garden Dome, the view will surely get some sparks flying.

2. Open Farm Community

If you’re looking for a place to spend your weekly Sunday family brunch, we’ve got just the right place for you. Nestled in the heart of town, Open Farm Community (OFC) at Minden Road (Dempsey Hill) pays homage to sustainable food sources through their stunning menu.
As advocates for urban farming and the ‘grow your own food movement’, OFC taps into their humble garden created by Edible Garden City for fresh veggies and herbs. Just like its namesake, the restaurant shows it’s love for locally farmed produce and freshly harvested ingredients through dishes such as the FarmForest Cherry Tomato and Watermelon Salad and 16-Hour Braised Canadian Pork Belly.
Other than salivating plates, this environmentally friendly restaurant also creates educational talks and workshops for all ages to foster stronger bonds within the community. Sounds like a great way to cultivate a new generation of green thumbs to us!

3. Three Buns (Impossible Burger)

Well, turns out nothing is Impossible. If you haven’t already heard, the Impossible Burger has finally landed on our shores! The star ingredient of the burger is its plant based ‘meat’. This hearty, yet environmentally friendly patty contains no gluten, no animal hormones, no antibiotics, and is halal certified. Served ‘medium rare’ with a glorious char, the burger is ‘impossibly’ identical to a real burger—truly a mind boggling trip for the tastebuds. Three Buns serves up two of these tantalising enigmas: The Impossible Dream ($27) and The Impossible Chedda ($23).
Fun fact: The Impossible Burger patty uses 87% less water, 89% fewer emissions and 96% less land as compared to actual ground beef!
We’ve only mentioned Three Buns here, but Impossible Food’s series of succulent creations are available at other locations such as Park Bench Deli, Cut by Wolfgang Puck, and Prive Orchard.
Find it at 60 Robertson Quay, Singapore 238252 (Three Buns Quayside) or 36 Keong Saik Rd, Singapore 089143 (Potato Head)

Afterglow is a seductive vegan restaurant located in Singapore’s number 1 hipster hideout: Keong Saik. The place draws on the liveliness of the area and turns it into a full-veggie explosion!
