It’s a new month! And, you know what that means? Chope’s Fresh Eats is back to get you hungry again! Satisfy your hunger pangs with 7 of our selected picks.

1. The Dragon Chamber

Hmm, fancy an evening of mystery and surprise? A night at this elusive speakeasy should do the trick. Read on closely, for what comes next will be the doorway to a magical evening.

You’ll find yourself first at a Kopitiam entrance. Sounds unlikely? The hostess then beckons you towards the beer fridge. What’s going on? Opening the unassuming fridge door will lead you into the secret world of the “Long Tang”, or as they call it, The Dragon Chamber.

The inner decor is reminiscent of old-school Hong Kong films with an ambience resembling the edgy gambling dens and secret society hangouts. You may be dubious but the underground speakeasy offers an unconventional menu of guerilla-style dishes. Have a go at the mighty Dragon’s Claw, a Crocodile Foot braised in Chinese herbs. Exuding a herbalicious taste, the meat is akin to the texture of chicken (so, cast those fears aside!), yet even more flavourful. If you’re up for an adventurous night, remember to give The Dragon Chamber a shot.

2. L’Entrecôte Steak & Fries Bistro

L’Entrecôte, the French steakhouse that has made a name for itself with its classic Steak Frites. Hearty and moreish, the succulent prime cut of beef doused with L’Entrecôte secret house sauce makes for a delightful sensation in your mouth. Meltingly-tender meat paired with the silky yet rich glaze — a true match-made in heaven.

The successful steakhouse opens its newest branch at the Customs House after almost a decade in the business. Overlooking the stunning Marina Bay, expect intricately-executed French recipes here. Think appetisers like the French Escargots de Bourgogne, parsley-buttered and garlic-infused gourmet snails with a bite. 3. Cheek Bistro

Boon Tat Street welcomes a new Australian bistro to its plethora of gourmet haunts. Conceptualised by the folks behind the former Cheek by Jowl, Cheek Bistro couples fresh flavours from the Down Under with hearty bistro accents in a beautiful culinary marriage.

Helmed by a husband-and-wife team, the new concept takes on a lighter, playful aura, a contrast from its Michelin-starred predecessor, Cheek by Jowl. Warm lights and wooden furniture complete with earthy undertones now invite diners into the open-kitchen bistro, akin to stepping into the couple’s cosy home.

Even with a different ambience, you can still count on Cheek Bistro to dish out wholesome Australian fare, infused with the team’s characteristic bold flavours. Have a taste of the Beef Tartare, a casual spin on its former One Michelin-starred counterpart’s regular item. Embrace the layers of texture with hand-chopped Australian rump combined with a puffed millet; be surprised as the smokey sweetness of smoked maple syrup and subtle heat from a dash of fermented chilli invigorate your taste buds.

4. Ishinomaki Grill & Sake

Looking for a place to curb your Japanese food cravings? We’ve got just the spot for you. Have a go at Ishinomaki, the latest addition to Tras Street. With a rotating seasonal menu, every dining experience here is unlike any other. Indulge in the best Nature has to offer as the izakaya serves up fresh ingredients, directly flown in from the land of the rising sun.

Order the Black Box and you’re in for a surprise. Watch as chefs innovate creative recipes fashioned out of seafood items that they themselves would only know on the spot. Be impressed by the display of the chefs’ culinary expertise along with a very, very satisfied tummy.

5. Pasta Bar

In the heart of the bustling Keong Saik Road, you’ll stumble upon a novel diner exuding a laidback intimacy overwhelming with heartfelt Italian hospitality. Piatto unico (a complete meal) is the epicentre here. Chef Alessandro plates up unique pasta pieces — eleven hand-pulled pastas delicately created from eleven separate doughs. Texture, taste, and shape differ with each creation, ensuring that diners have a one-of-a-kind pasta experience.

Introducing the Lagane, a rustic, eggless execution of chickpea, spicy garlic, and chilli with roots from the Southern Italian regions. From two different flour types comes the Pappardelle, a moreish meal of Rabbit Ragu, pine nuts, and olives. Pair these carefully curated delights with classic cocktails and quality wines for an unforgettable Italian experience.

6. 79 After Dark

As the night deepens, a vibrant Indian-Chinese restaurant along Boat Quay opens its doors to keep late-nighters’ hunger sated. Relish in North Indian favourites like the tandoori kebabs, skewers of char-grilled meats make your mouth water automatically at a whiff of the aroma. 7. Teppan Works

Ending off our latest Fresh Eats edition is the newcomer along Tras Street. Famed for quality cuts of Wagyu and their signature Cheese Okonomiyaki, head down to Teppan Works for a truly authentic Japanese dining experience. Okonomi in Japanese translates to “whatever you like”. And, at this teppanyaki, have free reign of the kind of cheese you want in their specialty Cheese Okonomiyaki. Choose from a good selection of cheese such as gorgonzola, mozzarella, and camembert, just to name a few. Top it off with a dash of the housemade chilli oil and black pepper and you’ll get a gooey goodness that’s pure heavenly.
