1. One Family Teochew Fish Porridge

Maxwell food centre may be famed for Tian Tian Chicken Rice, but there are plenty of other cheaper options to check out if you’re strapped for cash. Trying to stick to your 2018 goal to shed some pounds? Opt for fish soup. While there are several stalls in the hawker centre serving up this dish, a solid crowd-favourite is One Family Teochew Fish Porridge. The soup is made with fresh fish on ice, which is displayed at the stall itself. Their broth is clear, tasty, and virtually oil-free. The best part? It’s both dirt cheap and mighty delicious.

Find it at 1 Kadayanallur Street, Singapore 069184

3. Seng Kee Local Delights at Lau Pa Sat

Looking for some delicious Char Kway Teow without a hefty price tag? Then this is the place to go! Located in the Lau Pa Sat market, this eatery offers up deliciously, charred char kway teow with a generous serving of cockles and fishcake. The low price tag of this dish does not compromise on its taste, which is rare and definitely reassuring. Served piping hot and utterly satisfying, cheat day has never tasted so good. If you’re ever in the mood for something healthier, check out their menu of ridiculously affordable and tasty hawker food.

1. Muji Cafe

Yeah, you read that right. Muji is popular for their minimalist living items, but few people know of its cafe arm that serves up delicious and healthy meals for office workers. With prices ranging from $8.80 and above, the dishes here are chosen mixed-rice style, with a selection of dishes from the cold and hot delis. Opt for brown rice to make your meal even healthier. Make sure to reserve your seat before you get in line, because this place can get bustling at lunchtime. Instead of Chope-ing your seats with tissue, use the metal ‘reserve’ sign near the entrance.

Find it at 252 North Bridge Rd, Raffles City Robinsons, Singapore 179103

2. Napoleon Food & Wine Bar

Classic European fare without the excessively hefty price tag. The industrial interior of this restaurant will appeal to the minimalists out there, and the extensive wine list will thrill any connoisseur, but the highlight of this spot has to be their Asian-inspired French fare. Choose between Truffle Angel Hair Pasta, Poached Salmon, Stuffed Chicken Breast for your choice of main – though our vote would go to the deliciously fresh and juicy salmon. This is an affordable, low-key spot for an unpretentious lunch with your colleagues.
