1. Kko Kko Na Ra – Hot & Spicy Chicken

This saucy spot in Tanjong Pagar offers a range of flavours – from Original for the faint-hearted to Hot and Spicy for the daredevils out there. If the flaming red colour of the dish isn’t enough to faze you, venture a bite and you’ll find yourself wanting to gulp down water by the gallons just seconds in. For the health nuts out there, fear not as the chicken won’t leave you with greasy fingers afterwards.

2. Lagnaa – We Declare You King/Queen Curry
Indian cuisine is known for its punchy curries and stews, and if you’re craving a fiery tongue, there’s no better place than Bib Gourmand eatery Lagnaa. Long known for their ridiculously spicy curries, this place offers 10 levels of spice – starting at Level 1 for the faint-hearted to Level 10 for the brave souls among us. Eat a Level 3 spice dish without the aid of any of their yogurt-based drinks and you can earn yourself a spot on the string Chilli of fame. Prove yourself worthy of Level 10 spiciness by downing a Level 6 curry and living to tell the tale – sounds like a flaming hot deal to us!

3. Kontiki – Death Wings
With views of the Kallang River and casual American diner fare, this eatery looks pretty unassuming – but don’t be deceived, the Cocaine Wings at Kontiki are as spicy as they are addictive. Doused in barbecue sauce and fried to perfection, these wings come in three levels of hot sauce, depending on your preference. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can can #yolo it out with the Death Wings. Coated in ghost peppers, which are known to be one of the spiciest peppers in the world, this dish heralds death for your tastebuds – good news for spice fanatics!

4. LongQing – Ma La
Szechuan cuisine is known to be one of the spiciest cuisines in the orient. Famed for their liberal use of chilli and pepper, this cuisine is home to the Ma La hotpot. Made with numbing Szechuan pepper and lots of chilli, a whiff of this dish will have you reaching for the tissues. One of the spiciest Ma La hotpots in Singapore is located at LongQing, where MSG isn’t used to mask the spiciness of the soup base. The premium meat offerings such as Angus Beef and Pork Shoulder offer some respite from the heat, but if it’s a spicy soup you’re after, you might have just found it.

5. Southwest Tavern – Spaghetti From Hell
If you’ve got to sign an indemnity form to eat it, it’s got to be legit. This unassuming dish looks like an average bowl of spaghetti and tastes like one – for the first few bites at least. Dig deeper and you’ll be ambushed by a strings of sliced chilli and spicy sauce. The tavern has a “Spaghetti From Hell Challenge” which gets eaters to chow down the dish in less than 10 minutes without the aid of water or any other beverages. Think you’re brave enough? Give it a shot – beer towers and food vouchers are up for grabs!

6. Lower East Side Tacqueria – Level 5 Tacos
If you’re a fan of Mexican food, you’ll love Lower East Side Tacqueria’s menu. Spice lovers will enjoy their Spicy Taco challenge even more. Finish a taco of your choice with their searing Level 5 Hot Sauce drizzled on top, and it’s on the house. The staff say anything above Level 3 is dangerous, and unsurprisingly, the innocent-looking sauce packs a serious punch, comprising a mix of peppers and chilli. Every weekend, brave souls attempt this challenge, fuelled my tequila and horchata, but few succeed. Are you game enough to taco on the challenge?

7. Sunset Grill & Pub – Level 35 Wings
This American diner touts itself as the “Home of the Level 35 Buffalo Wings.” Tangy with a hint of sourness, the wings start at regular spice levels and go up to level 35 for spice lovers. Finish a plate of their wings and your meal is on the house – you can recruit up to two people to join in your suffering. Be warned, however, these wings have gained notoriety for being the “spiciest wings in Singapore” and are a force to be reckoned with. If scorching heat and “spice tears” are your thing, then this challenge is definitely for you.
