Entrances in the back alley, toilets used as storage spaces, steps everywhere – these are just some of the problems faced by wheelchair users in Singapore. From a food and watering den to a cosy 15-seater cafe, these wheelchair-friendly restaurants offer great food with the convenience of accessibility, making the enjoyment available for everyone.

1. Professor Brawn Cafe

Founded by a couple who wants to make a difference to the special needs community, Professor Brawn is a social enterprise that provides good, affordable food by an inclusive workforce. The namesake, Professor Brawn, was created by the founders’ child, who has a learning disability.

The cafe serves a selection of Western food. We love their signature Fish and Chips, which has just the right amount of crisp. Best of all, their generous servings are perfect for sharing between a parent and a child. There’s also a wide range of desserts on the menu, enough to satisfy the sweetest of teeth!

The route from Novena MRT takes around 5 minutes. The drop off point is also accessible.
Entrance
As this cafe is located at Velocity @ Novena Square, the main entrance is accessible. There are also lifts on every level.

2. W39 Bistro & Bakery

Tucked away at a quiet residential area in Clementi, this cafe is easy to spot for many reasons. Its bright exterior – light blue doors with yellow tinted glass – greets you a mile away. Try their best-selling cake, Mister Chocolate, a hefty slice of chocolate sponge with chocolate chips, and covered in a shiny layer of – you guessed it – melted chocolate.

Don’t have a sweet tooth? Relish in their savoury offerings instead, which range from your usual brunch items like Eggs Benedict to local favourites like Mee Siam. Before you leave, don’t forget to catch a glimpse of W39’s other star attraction – Mimi, their resident cat, is often curled up in a warm corner of the bistro.

Now located in the National Museum, Food For Thought is returning to their roots. The marble table tops, wall mosaic, and wooden chairs are a homage to the humble kopitiam. The food is also a mix of hearty brunch staples and bistro fare inspired by local flavours. Think Mee Siam linguine, Ma Ling spam fries and Ribena sponge cake (from the folks behind In The Brick Yard). Due to its museum locale, you can also find carefully curated items and exclusive Singaporean tales in the atrium. We say, come for the food, stay for the cultural experience!
