Conrad Lobby Lounge’s 1-for-1 Weekend High Tea is a seafood lover’s heaven

Buffet high teas are somewhat of a common ritual here in Singapore but when we heard of Conrad Lobby Lounge‘s new 4-course Weekend High Tea offering, we can’t help but pop by to experience it ourselves.

background_LLbar
Tear away from the hustle and bustle of the city and feel your worries melt away as you step into the lounge. The warm wood panellings and comfortable lounge chairs beckon you to relax and unwind, while the waiting staff tend to your needs. A typical high tea starts off light and simple but at Conrad, you know you’ll be pampered through and through.

28122518-SeafoodPlatter_resized_2000x1500
An indulgent beginning comes in the form of a refreshing Seafood Platter that features a trio of lobster, prawns, and oysters. A squirt of lime and a dash of hot sauce add a touch of brightness to the fresh ocean catch, whetting your appetite for more. While tucking into poached Boston lobster with brilliantly plump prawns, and slurping down luscious Irish oysters, we thought: can it get any better than this?

Oh yes, yes it can.

262_ Conrad june 2018
The second course presented itself as a myriad of savoury delights and sweet treats. From House Cured Salmon to Orange Curd, Fresh Thyme Flower and Ivory Chocolate Mousse, tiers upon tiers of high tea selections were brought to the table. Feast your eyes on the lobby lounge’s extensive catalogue of Ronnefeldt teas as well, where you can take your pick from calming classics to unique concoctions such as the Orange Pekoe tea.

We delighted in their Baked Mango and Passionfruit Lava and wished we could devour endless servings of their Heirloom Tomato and Marinated Mozzarella TartletsEating your way down the tiers, greet the fresh strawberries and classic chantilly cream at the end to finish off on a sweet note.

Don’t just take our word for it – explore them yourselves and find your favourite out of the list of treats on the menu!

264_ Conrad june 2018
Wrap up the tiered treats with a serving of Conrad’s popular Warm Scones, served alongside mini pots of homemade fig, strawberry jam, and clotted cream. Smear clotted cream onto the warm scones, and have it together with your jam of choice. If there was a way to turn satisfaction into flavour, this comes really close.

On the other hand, get in touch with your swish side when you tuck into their Cheeseboard that offers Brie, Chaume, and Tomme de Savoie alongside a smorgasbord of crackers and dried fruits.

Still unconvinced? Here’s a Chope insider’s tip: Conrad’s throwing in a sweet deal this month with Chope Exclusives! Enjoy a 1-for-1 Weekend High Tea from $68++ at the Lobby Lounge when you make a reservation with the promo code CE8LL*.

Spice by Chris Salans

If you’re looking for solid, unpretentious Indonesian food in a hip setting, Spice is the place to go. This gastro-bar, helmed by acclaimed chef Chris Salans, has three classy but comfortable locations spread across three destinations: Ubud, Sanur, and Seminyak. The menu is divvied up into sections like “Seafood”, “Raw”, and “Sliders”, and standouts include the indulgent Crispy Pork Belly given an update with turmeric dressing and dukkah spice or Tuna Tataki with sambal kecicang and tempe crackers. The cuisine here is infused with Western influences, so it’s no surprise that the affordable sliders (with ingredients like papaya, sambal hijau, and wakame bread) are absolutely scrumptious. Wash it all down with a milkshake or signature cocktail—Salans’ tipples only use fresh fruits and local spices. Pro-tip: give the Jackfruit Bourbon Cocktail a spin!

Find it at Jalan Raya Ubud No. 23, Ubud, Bali 80571; Jalan Danau Tamblingan No. 140, Sanur, Bali 80228; or Jalan Batu Belig No.7, Kerobokan, Seminyak, Bali 80361

grain 1.jpggrain 2.jpg

Grain

Grain’s affordable menu belies the effort put into it: from locally-sourced produce, pies baked in-house, to a unique blend of 100% Arabica beans. You can find classic Indo dishes here too, but the All Day Breakfast and Western dishes are where it’s at. Go for a Bali Benedict or the luxurious Breakfast Board, which offers an assortment of components like marinated feta and sourdough rosti for a steal. For something heartier, you can’t go wrong with a Pulled Pork Burger showcasing slow-roasted pork with homemade apple sauce. Pair it with a cup of coffee and while away a lazy afternoon in Seminyak. The art-adorned walls, matching cushions, and industrial vibe make for a beautifully Instagrammable interior, too.

Other favourites are the Philly Cheese Steak Poutine and slow-cooked Baby Back Pork Ribs in two styles, whether you’re craving eastern or western flavours. Salivating yet? Savour the finer things in life at Dolce Vita

It’s a long weekend, and we know what your inner foodie is thinking: it’s time to #treatyoself to a nice, comforting meal and enjoy the extra time you have on your hands! Not sure where to start? Cue Dolce Vita, an establishment that dishes out culinary masterpieces while staying true to its traditional Italian flavours.

dolce_vita_handmade_buffalo_mozzarella_jpg_1494516168

image5

Prepared to be amazed when the buffalo mozzarella is wheeled out of the kitchen – the 2kgs of braided cheese, flown directly from Italy, is as fresh as they come. The chef then slices the cheese on the spot and plates them with semi-dried tomatoes, anchovies, rucola salad, and a generous dressing of Italian basil oil to complete the Treccia Campana di Bufala.

image6

Need a little Italian comfort? You’ll find it in the Risotto. Using a special selection Acquerello Rice, every mouthful gives a satisfying bite while subtle flavours of pumpkin, sauteed prawn, and soft hints of ginger oil are slowly introduced to your palate. You’d have to try this to know – it’s an experience not to be missed!

IMG_9845

Perhaps one of the most unforgettable dishes here is the Tagliata di Manzo. The beautifully roasted US Prime Beef Ribeye imparts a subtle, beefy flavour and the meat is cooked tender throughout. Served with a side of the fluffiest mashed potatoes, fragrant sautéed vegetables, sharp capperata, and a generous lather of natural roasting juices, this is definitely a must-try!

dolce_vita_25_tiramisu_jpg_1483414418dolce_vita_25_vanilla_pannacot_1483414419

The desserts menu is where the creativity of the kitchen team at Dolce Vita really shines. The ever-popular Tiramisu doesn’t steer far from its original but here, they craft this dessert with a modern twist that makes it both visually attractive and a pleasure to tuck into. What we found pleasantly refreshing is that the Mascarpone mousse carried a hint of citrus – orange zest that’s strained and infused into the espuma – with every mouthful. Our verdict? #muchimpressed

When the kitchen dishes up their Panna Cotta, it’s easy to see why this intricate little number steals hearts the second it hits the table. Resembling a magical fairy garden complete with adorable panna cotta ‘toadstools’ and green tea sponge cake ‘moss crumbles’, it’s almost too beautiful to eat! The berry coulis and berry sponge add a slight tang and a refreshing palate-cleanser to this creamy delight.

The relaxed and convivial atmosphere, paired with the contemporary twist to traditional Italian flavours, makes Dolce Vita an establishment that sets itself above the rest. Don’t just take our word for it – book a table today and enjoy yourselves the Italian way!

Above and Beyond

As the name suggests, this TST mainstay at Hotel Icon is indeed ‘above and beyond’ in terms of location and dining experience! To start, savour on the Smoked Egg with Oolong Tea Leaves and Black Truffles, followed by their Steamed Garoupa Fillet with Egg White in Superior Chicken Broth: the chicken is soaked in a hot broth with freshly caught Garoupa and is simmered for 12 hours.

Our fan fave, though, has to be the Claypot Rice with Chinese Preserved Duck and Sausages (think poached duck pieces on top of piping-hot rice, giving the meat a firm-yet-tender texture). Above & Beyond truly spoils us when it comes to dishing out beautiful views and delectable dishes.

Free-Flow Brunch at Only $58++? Get Yours at Salted & Hung!

Mention the word ‘brunch’ and it’s likely you’re already thinking about the aroma of coffee, fulfilling breakfast platters, and the ambience of a cafe on a Sunday afternoon. But we’ll let you in on a little secret: what if brunch can be so much more than that?

Taking the usual brunch experience up a notch is Salted & Hung‘s Weekend Brunch Hangout, where diners get to tuck into free-flow (yes, we said FREE-FLOW) brunch items on Saturdays and Sundays. With a menu that boasts over 12 showstopping dishes, as well as a charcuterie and antipasti bar, this has to be one of the best kept secrets in town! Let us give you the rundown of some of our favourite dishes on the menu (click here for the full menu).

image1.gif

SH Portobello & Egg On Toast

Simple in name but not in flavour, Salted & Hung’s Portobello & Egg on Toast is something of a revelation. The robust sourdough bread carries a deep and slightly tangy taste which perfectly complements the meaty portobello and caramelised onions that it comes topped with. That torched cheese? YUM.

image3.gif

[NSFW] EGG PORN WARNING: Cut through the gleaming egg and let the golden yolk add another dimension of flavour to this already tasty snack!

SH Smoked Halibut & Caviar Crostini (1)

image4.gif

Another firm Chope team favourite is their Smoked Halibut and Caviar Crostini. The crostini bears the signature char from the Salted & Hung team’s skillful grilling. With each bite, the moreish mix of smoked halibut and savoury caviar create nuances of textures and flavours.

Freemantle Octopus, Lentils, Caponata

Wagyu Ragu, Homemade Pasta, Beef Fat Crumbs

Small plates aside, don’t forget to give some of their meatier options a try. With tantalising items such as Fremantle Octopus chargrilled to perfection, juicy Chicken Thigh, and satisfying Wagyu Ragu, resistance is futile.

image2.gif

SH Steak, Eggs & Tomatoes

While Salted & Hung likes to keep things simple, the flavours of the dishes that fly out the kitchen are never compromised. A fine example comes in the form of their Steak, Eggs, & Tomatoes: a delicate slab of Angus beef short rib is sous vide at a low temperature for 48 hours, and then lightly smoked with applewood and mesquite before hitting the grill. With so much care put into preparing the short rib, it doesn’t come as a surprise that each bite packs a complex punch. Served on the side are dainty, charred, pickled green tomatoes which were a welcoming cleanser in between mouthfuls of steak.

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

With irresistible selections such as the Peanut Butter Cornetto and French Toast Doughnuts, we won’t hold it against you if you decide to go nuts on the desserts front. Their Hibiscus, Berries & Px took us by surprise with its fresh, tart, yet sweet combination.

For an afternoon of free-flow delights to knock your socks off, the whole shebang costs only $58++ per person. Plus, top up an additional $30++ for unlimited beer, prosecco, and house pour wines for two hours! The best part? Each Sunday from now until 3rd September 2017, score a brunch seat at only $50++ per person when you book a table through either the Chope app or website with the promo code 50SALTED!

Similar to vegetable fritters, these tasty delights are fried to perfection – crisp on the outside yet moist on the inside. The fritters are then layered with halloumi and stewed tomatoes before being topped with a perfectly poached egg. UH-may-zinggg.

Fresh Eats: 9 New Restaurants To Check Out This August

It’s August, and we’re welcoming a brand new month with 9 new restaurants, hot off the press! From heritage cuisine reflecting Singapore’s multicultural heritage to bespoke cocktails infused with Asian herbs and spices, this month’s gonna be an egg-citing one!

COMO Cuisine Lamb Kofta.jpgCOMO Cuisine Our Big Raw Salad.jpg

COMO Cuisine

Part of the complex under Singapore luxury hotel group COMO Dempsey, COMO Cuisine is a new restaurant concept presenting signature cuisines from COMO Hotels and Resorts properties around the world. Boasting a clean, elegant, and relaxed ambience, the space is designed by world-renowned architect and designer, Paola Navone, and reflects the essence of COMO Cuisine’s offerings.

Here, you’ll get exposed to a myriad of contemporary flavours. The restaurant’s menu brings a light touch to the big flavours of the region, reflecting Singapore’s heritage as a culinary melting pot. Generous in flavour and quality, the refined and modern fare amalgamates ingredients and techniques from different regions to produce something new and unexpected.

After a hearty meal at COMO Cuisine, head over to the other stores located in the same compound – indulge in retail therapy at world-renowned retail concept store Dover Street Market or down some after meal tipples at The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar, opened by acclaimed Michelin chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

Provisions

Also located in the hip and trendy Dempsey enclave is Provisions, a 1,600 sq ft space serving up comfort food on skewers, claypot rice, and bespoke Asian-inspired cocktails. Set in an industrial-chic space with high metal chairs, wooden fixtures, and low-hanging warm fluorescent bulbs, the ambience here will remind you of the charms of yesteryear.

Provisions is an ideal dining destination for groups as communal dining is encouraged here; it was his love for bonding with family and friends over food that sparked Singaporean Chef/ Owner Justin Foo to open this place.

While they serve humble, local dishes, the chefs at Provisions are certainly not taking their craft lightly. A great amount of emphasis is placed on the origins and quality of the ingredients, with a majority hailing from the Southeast Asian region. Menu highlights include the Seafood Rice and a decadent Oyster & Uni Rice, which brings to the table two of the most amazing and rich flavours of the sea. Finally, finish your meal with tipples from their well-tended cocktail bar; the inventive cocktails are tailored to your tastes and preferences, and infuse a blend of Asian herbs and spices.

Octavium—Chef Umberto Bombana’s New Digs

Chef Umberto Bombana of three Michelin-starred 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo fame recently unveiled his newest addition to Hong Kong’s culinary scene—Octavium. Unlike Chef Bombana’s other Central hotspot 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Octavium features a more intimate setting, and more simplified, yet creative menu. Must-try highlights on their degustation menu have to be the Homemade Sardinian Gnocchi with Traditional Pork Ragout and Castelmagno Cheese as well as the Grand Cru Chocolate Soufflé with Hazelnut Gelato. The former boasts a rich and cheesy sauce that gives the gnocchi a silky, smooth texture whilst the latter offers a delicious molten centre and a light, springy exterior—pure chocolaty decadence from the inside out.
