We’ve finally reached the mid-year mark! The first half of the year has seen a flurry of new openings and revamps, so we’re bringing you seven new spots to boost your dining game for the next half of the year.
If you haven’t already been, the newly revamped Funan Mall is THE HOTSPOT after Jewel at Changi. No kidding, this mall has a maze-like layout, and is filled to the brim with innovative retail stalls. That’s why it’s no doubt that Funan is home to one-of-a-kind dining spots like Godmama!
This Peranakan restaurant offers both indoor and alfresco seats, with the latter allowing you to have a great view of Funan’s rooftop garden. Godmama infuses modern elements into its traditional Peranakan plates—their All-Star Egg Skin Popiah is a hit with both the young and the old! Chock-full of comforting stewed veggie fillings, fresh prawns, and loaded with crispy garlic bits (the more crunch the better), their hearty popiah sure hits the spot after a day of exploring Funan’s facade.

We know, you’ve probably been to Joo Chiat for an #OOTD session or two along its pastel-hued shophouses, but here’s another reason to visit the hipster enclave. If you’re pacing around the East, wondering what to have for dinner, head to Jimoto Dining, a quaint Omakase restaurant nestled amongst the other stylish cafes and bars. Helmed by Chef Takahiro Sato, the restaurant serves affordable, quality Japanese fare.
As sushi lovers ourselves, we too were intrigued by how Chef Sato uses Akazu—Red Vinegar—to make the sushi rice. The Red Vinegar adds a touch of acidity, and gives an umami flavour to the sushi rice—oishi! Sake-lovers, we haven’t forgotten about you! With their extensive sake list, you’re sure to find the perfect drink for every course! All omakase courses at Jimoto Dining consist of an appetiser, sushi, and dish of the day from the hot-kitchen. If you’re looking for a quick-fix post work, take up the five-course Toki ($55+), served only from 6—7pm. On the other hand, their Introductory Sanpuru ($68+), innovative Kakushin ($98+) and the premium Zeitaku ($128+) are perfect choices if you’re looking to impress a date.

Fun fact: this restaurant has two outlets in Japan! goo Italiano is a casual Italian restaurant that prides itself on serving up affordable and authentic plates of pasta along Clarke Quay! This spot infuses elements from its Japanese outlets, offering creative options like the Tokyo Style Lasagna.
Unlike most Italian restaurants, goo Italiano shines the spotlight on Foccia Di Recco, a lighter version of Pizza. Their Foccia Di Recco comes in flavours like Parma Harm and Mushroom, great if you’re a traditionalist. But for those looking to try something different, we suggest the ‘Cacio e Pepe’, a version that infuses Baked Mash Potato and Cheese into the dough. If you’re a carb lover like us, that’s exactly what will hit the spot!

Sweet, spicy and robust flavours are what comes to our minds when we think of Thai cuisine. French flavours on the other hand, are more subdued and sophisticated. Are you in need of a pick me up? Start off your meal with juicy oysters topped with refreshing Ikura. The kicker? Their oysters are served with Thai chili sauce—talk about a burst of flavor! We’re sure you’re a little confused by the wacky name. Meaning ‘一起福’ (together we prosper), this no-frills Japanese kitchen is inspired by old school Singaporean Cantonese restaurants. Step into IZY FOOK, and bask in the electric energy reminiscent of 70s Chinatown watering holes.
The swanky restaurant bar is split into two sections: The ‘Living Room’ and ‘Dining Hall’. Step into the ‘Living Room’ and be greeted by illustrations from Hong Kong’s up and coming illustrator Jonathan Jay Lee. Truly embodying its namesake, the ‘Living Room’ is where you can find ultra-hip diners bopping to lively hip hop tracks while noshing on roasted and charred Cantonese meats (siew yok anyone?). If you’re looking for a pre-drink snack, get the Buta No Shogayaki. It’s pan-seared ginger stick rolled with pork belly, deglazed with soy sauce and sansho slices. Super juicy and charred to perfection, there’s really no better way to kickstart your night! Need something heartier? You can’t go wrong with their Wagyu Truffle Don!
Looking to gather with friends over a cocktail or two? Head over to the ‘Dining Hall’. Located at the back of the restaurant, this cosy enclave is able to accommodate 50 people comfortably, and is perfect for a private hurrah with your favourite people!
Just like you, we’re suckers for a good view. So where better to enjoy the spectacular Singaporean skyline than at rooftop restaurant NOKA! Perched atop the newly revamped Funan Digital Life Mall, this Japanese restaurant is located right smack in the middle of Singapore’s Civic District. Opening on 28thJune, NOKA is the brainchild behind by Spa Esprit, and sister restaurant to Open Farm Community, which is why the same level of dedication to nature and the environment is upheld.
The well-loved farm-to-table concept at OFC is extended to NOKA. We recommend choosing a seat near the windows, where you can sit back and relish in the stunning view of the 5000 sq-ft urban garden that runs alongside the restaurant walls. What’s more: veggies from the edible garden are used in NOKA’s dishes. Their ECG Mushroom and Black Cod Saiko-Yaki both utilize the garden’s wide array of herbs and vegetables, making sure you get the ultimate farm-to-table experience!

Rise and shine, folks. It’s time for some Sunday brunching! Come with your family or friends for the new Bouchons Riviera Brunch, the perfect perk-me-up on a lazy Sunday.
Les Bouchons was established in 2002, with its first opening at Ann Siang Hill. The Robertson Quay outlet boasts a similar French bistro vibe and with the added charm of the French Riviera, comes the name Les Bouchons Rive Gauche. Helmed by French Chef Mickael Cornac, guests can expect a truly authentic dining experience that’s rooted in Parisian culture and flavour. Bubbly and amicable, Chef Mickael spoke with such gusto for every dish, throwing in nibbles of fun facts, for a little behind-the-scenes look at the concoction of the beautiful plates before our eyes.
Launched last April, Bouchons Rivera Brunch is served only at its Robertson Quay outlet. The menu, creatively-inspired by the French Riviera, is the brand’s first-ever attempt at brunch. And dare we say, it was a pretty, darn good brunch!
For starters, give a shot at the Eggs Mimosa and Escargot de Bourgogne. The former is more commonly known as Devil’s Eggs — a creamy mousse of eggs accompanied by garlic-sauteed asparagus for an extra bite. With the clever addition of dashes of mustard and lemon juice, the eggy rendition is flavourful and a rightfully delightful starter.
Eggs Mimosa $14++
Another great way to ease yourselves into the mains would be Les Bouchons’ signature escargots. The French delicacy is served with warm, toasted breads from French bakery Paul, great for moping up the deliciously addictive garlic-parsley butter. Psst, Chef Mickael is pretty generous with seconds too!
Escargot de Bourgogne $16++
Moving on to the mains, you’ll be glad you came in groups! The serving is exceptionally generous, great for sharing. From nutritious bowls to hearty roasts, there’s definitely something for everyone!
Starting off with the health-conscious, this one’s for you. The Wellness Bowl is the perfect blend of textures and flavours — crunchy granola, honey yoghurt, tea-soaked goji berries, fresh bananas, chia seeds, and get this, balsamic-infused strawberries! The infusion lends a surprisingly tangy twist to the sweet fruit that refreshes your palate.
Riviera Wellness Bowl $18++
For a savoury healthy option, go for the Guele de Bois. Quipped as Bouchons Hangover Cure, this is another great bowl of goodness. Colourful and decadent, the dish boasts the highly raved ‘Impossible’ meatballs, strong scents of truffle oil with creamy scrambled eggs, and sides of juicy roasted cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus. The meatballs exude a slightly sweet undertone, bringing out the truffled eggs really well in a nice pairing.
Gueule de Bois (Bouchons Hangover Cure) $24++
For carnivores, fret not! Meet the meats. Bouchons Sunday Roast will have you drooling at the sight of the glorious meaty delight. For the roast, there is a weekly rotation between meats like quail and slow-cooked short ribs. For our visit, we were treated to the amazing 10-hour slow-cooked short ribs. Unbelievably fragrant, the beef was infused beautifully with rosemary, garlic, and thyme — simply melt-in-your-mouth umaminess. Meltingly-tender, the roast is gastronomically worth every single calorie and penny.
Remember to call in advance to see if your favourite is available for the coming Sunday brunch!
Bouchons Sunday Roast $32++
If it’s your first time at Les Bouchons, then you’ve got to try the Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak. A Les Bouchons mainstay, be prepared to fall in love with the succulent yet still delicately-tender cut, complete with free-flow house-made fries! The vigneron (shallot and mustard) butter is slathered all over the meat, giving the 300g steak an added richness. It’s no wonder that the juicy cut remains a best-selling crowd favourite till this day.
Grilled Black Angus Rib Eye Steak $39.80++
As brunch winds down, end off your Sunday outing on a sweet note. Chef Mickael has whipped up desserts with just as much passion as the City of Love. Bite into the decadent Chocolate Brownie, served warm and contrasted against the cool vanilla ice-cream atop. Made with 66% dark chocolates, rest assured that the fudgy dessert won’t be cloyingly sweet.
Chocolate Brownie “Fait Maison” $10++
Another Les Bouchons favourite, the Creme Brulee will steal the hearts of sweet-lovers. Velvety-smooth without the eggy custard taste, the rendition here is invigorated with a slight citrusy hint, courtesy of the creative Chef Mickael. Scoop a spoonful of that smokey, caramelised brown sugar coating and you’ll soon be in French heaven. Other dessert options include the Crepe, with choices of Nutella, fine sugar, banana, or honey — great for the little ones.
Creme Brulee “Fait Maison” $12++Crepes $8++
If you woke up feeling hungry, head down to Les Bouchons Rive Gauche for a Riviera brunch that won’t disappoint. Sunday brunching starts from 11.30am – 3.30pm in the afternoon.

Kicking off the list of eats at Alkaff Mansion is Wildseed Cafe. Guests can expect a glorified garden encased within a beautiful interior where dried flowers and plants line the cafe, a sight so pretty you’ll unknowingly let out a gasp.
By day, the cafe serves up hearty brunch and lunch favourites like the comforting Bagel Eggs Benny, all made from locally-sourced ingredients. As the night falls, sit back and relax in a dinner setting amidst a lush, edible garden. The cafe transforms into a grill bar, where you can order bar bites to go with your beer. Try the Cheesy Bar Chor Nachos Platter, an interesting twist on the usual bar nosh, yet still equally devilishly good. The fried calamari also goes excellently well with the citrusy yuzu kuso mayo, adding a zesty hint to the crispy delight.
Live acoustic music on Fridays through Sundays coupled with a laidback ambience, and a cold, garden-inspired cocktail in hand will give you a good reason to get out on the weekends.

2. TXA Pintxo Bar
TXA? And, pintxo? What’s all these?
TXA pronounced as ‘Cha’ and pintxo pronounced as ‘pin-cho’, come together to make Singapore’s first Basque country experience, native to San Sebastian, Spain. Pintxo, the Basque region’s favourite snack, is a bite-sized morsel served on a stick, great for parties and gatherings to share amongst friends and family.
Bringing you the vibrant romance of the Spanish Basque country, TXA Pintxo Bar belts out upbeat hits to warm you up for the exciting activities lined up that’ll get you right into the groove. Select your choice of pintxo from flaky iberico crackers with smokey cod roe or salted cod with chorizo breadcrumbs, complete with a mildly pickled flavour of piparras to cut through the brine with some tang.
Pair all these Spanish eats with creative concoctions. Refresh your taste buds with the Rebujito, a delightful mix of white vino with lemon juice and Sprite, topped off with herby tinges of spearmint and rosemary. For the refined, the Pisco Sour’s a good choice. Expect brandy with egg whites and lime juice, an unexpected combination that’ll surprise your senses along with the sugary syrup and Angostura Bitters.
Find it at 10 Telok Blangah Green, Singapore 109178 Click here for more information on TXA Pintxo Bar.
3. UNA
Opening its doors once again, but this time at The Alkaff Mansion, stop by for a romanticised night of old favourites from UNA’s former Rochester venue. Revitalising the century-old heritage building with its Basque country’s Spanish vibes, UNA brings the best of the Basque region with it. Singapore’s first-ever partnership with the Basque Culinary Institute gifts diners with wholly authentic Basque region’s produce, culture, and cuisine.
Start off with the grilled octopus and let the smoky char of the mollusk engulf your senses with each bite as the paprika spikes the dish with some heat. Come in groups and get the Arroz Negro to share. Lathered in squid ink, savour the brine of the ocean in a garlicky aioli with crunchy cuttlefish, succulent prawns, and juicy clams. Wind down your meal on a sweet note with the Flan de Huevo, a combination of caramel flan with strawberries and citrus elements — a perfect bittersweet ending with an added zing.

5. Heart of Darkness Singapore
The Vietnam-based craft brewery has set foot on the sunny shores of Singapore! Back in 2017, the brewery started its extensive supply of craft beers to restaurants and bars in Singapore. Having established a following, the leading brewery in Ho Chih Min City now cements its presence further in the little red dot with the opening of its very own restaurant bar.
Barflies, rejoice. Be prepared for a revolutionary craft beer adventure where your sight, smell, and taste senses undergo an ethereal experience. Expect the unexpected. Forget your usual stouts and lagers — big, bold flavours are coming your way. 6. Sikdang
Joining the enclave of Korean eateries in Tanjong Pagar is none other than the homely Sikdang. The Korean interpretation of the restaurant name itself refers to a fun and casual diner. The simplicity of its naming translates into its recipes whereby frills and thrills are done away, leaving only the pure essence of heartwarming hospitality at pocket-friendly prices.
The chef here lives by a saying — create food like how his eomeoni (mother) would’ve made them, genuine and passionate. Authenticity at its finest, give a shot at the hotpots, reminiscent of traditional Korean flavours that’ll have you slurping up every last drop. Even the sauces here aren’t spared. The home-made sauce is the product of the chef’s earnest hard work in making sure his customers get the best taste of Korean fare, true to its roots.
If you’re in the area, why not try out something new? Let Sikdang win you over with its comforting delights.

7. One 2 Drink
The new kid along Horne Road brings refreshing pints of cold beer and addictively delicious bar bites, complete with live band performances to create the ultimate chill-out ambience.
Located just minutes away from Lavender MRT station, One 2 Drink is one of those cosy spots you’ll find nestled along a row of shophouses. Nosh here include the Salted Egg Ladies Fingers, a bar signature. Think crispy, sweetly salty batter encasing a crunchy and juicy piece of vegetable. For something more local, opt for the Ngoh Hiang, delicate pieces of pork roll that pack a flavour punch. Coupled with pints starting at only $7.80 and $35 for a bucket of 5 Stellas, you’re all settled for a gathering with close friends.

Letting the food speak for itself, mainstays like the Grilled Maine Lobster and Sliced Veal Zurich won’t disappoint. The humble restaurant offers up comforting European favourites with a touch of Swiss cordiality, giving diners the warmth of a great meal and service.

9. Wagyu Omakase by Ayumi
Helmed by the folks behind the refined Sushi Ayumi, omakase is taken to greater heights with their new concept. Wagyu Omakase centers around the best cuts of Black Wagyu from Kyushu’s vast plains.
Housing an intimate 15-seater counter setting, diners are attended to by Chef Fukashi, a meticulous culinary master from a lineage of tea-growers. His heritage inspires the omakase rendition here, whereby aspects of nature are highly prominent in the curated menu. Chef Fukashi artfully designs the menu to elevate nature to a whole new level, incorporating the seven elements of ‘fire’, ‘wind’, ‘sea’, ‘mountain’, ‘field’, ‘ice’, and ‘wood’ into each course. The fine dining omakase experience is completed with the hosting by its attentive service staff, all trained in omotenashi (traditional Japanese hospitality), to ensure that you’re well taken care of from the start to the end.

The crowning glory of the world’s best airport was recently unveiled to much fanfare. With so much to eat, see, and do at Jewel, we rounded up 12 of our top picks.
Having taken China by storm with their menu of Chinese classics, this chain has finally landed on our shores with a flagship outlet at Jewel. Sink your teeth into some unique delicacies, like the Steampot Chicken Soup. Pressure-cooked in earthenware pots with no water, the chicken in this rich dish melts in the mouth from the first bite.
Probably one of the most Instagrammed features of Jewel, this beautiful glass waterfall is 40 metres tall, making it the tallest man-made indoor waterfall in the world. The thunderous sound of rushing water greets you as you make your way to the centre of Jewel. Flanked by the greenery of the Shiseido Forest Valley on both sides, this is the best place for an #ootd
Tiger Street Lab
Tiger Beer has been a staple of Singaporean culture since 1932, but there’s never been a global concept store devoted to the beloved beverage before. Offering a curated experience featuring seasonal brews and heritage art, this restaurant is perfect for local lovers of bubbly, as well as tourists looking to get a taste of the Singapore drinking scene.
Hiking is a rare luxury in Singapore, so be sure to treat yourself to a gorgeous trail while you’re here. Work off the calories on one of the numerous walking trails that take you from the artificial forests to the roofs of Canopy Park. Each trail is different, with the Western one boasting sweeping mists that bring a sense of excitement and wonder, and the Eastern route weaving through rocky waterfalls.
Shang Social
Opened by the Shangri-La group as a standalone restaurant, Shang Social serves up dishes inspired by three cuisines – Cantonese, Huaiying, and Sichuan. With three dining enclaves dedicated to different styles of dining – formal, communal, and drinks, there really is something for everyone here.
Greenery not your thing? Fret not, as the Mirror Maze will be right up your alley. With the greenery restricted to the top of the structure, this whimsical kaleidoscope is made up entirely of mirror walls. Set aside at least half an hour to solve the puzzle hidden within, and be sure to bring along a camera to document this unique attraction.
The World is Flat by Tanuki Raw
Set to revolutionise the Singapore dining scene with their spunky menus of pizzas, craft beer, and cocktails. Got a thirst that Tiger can’t quench? There’s sure to be a craft beer on tap here that will hit the right spot. With a menu of light snacks, and carefully-curated tipples, this is the perfect place to relax and unwind – whether you’re catching a plane or not!
This giant trampoline is all your childhood dreams brought to life. Brought to the masses by Manulife, this hardy net extends up to 250 metres in length, and reaches eight metres over the roof of canopy park. Be sure to be attired appropriately – Jewel recommends closed-in shoes and pants or shorts to prevent rope-burn and other injuries.
This restaurant has already built a cult following in London with their delectable lobster rolls and juicy burgers, so it was only a matter of time before they washed up on our shores. With a compact menu of Burger, Lobster, and Lobster Roll, you won’t exactly be spoiled for choice, but we guarantee you’ll be satisfied no matter what you choose!
Adrenaline junkies and nature enthusiasts alike will love this spot. Suspended 23 metres in the air, this glass-bottomed bridge allows guests an unencumbered view of the foliage below. Think of it as the greener version of the famed Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge. Guests are encouraged to wear covered shoes to cross the bridge, and slip-resistant covers will also be provided.
Violet Oon
Diners may already be familiar with Violet Oon’s concept of Peranakan fare made posh from their outlets in Bukit Timah, Ion Orchard and the National Gallery. Violet Oon at Jewel is much bigger and grander than its counterparts, but stays true to the spices and flavours of Straits Chinese fare. Whether it’s a one-dish wonder or a quick drink at the long bar, this restaurant offers an experience like no other.
Keeping with the “support local” theme, make a stop at the shopping area of Jewel. Peruse the many creative products produced right here in Singapore. From men and women’s clothing to artisanal perfume to cute crockery, there’s sure to be something for every taste in Jewel’s carefully-curated shopping enclaves.
As part of their commitment to culinary excellence and creativity, the Hyatt group of hotels recently held the finals of their annual The Good Taste Series—a cooking challenge that pits Hyatt’s chefs from around the world against each other—right here in Singapore on the 28th of March.
With over 220 chefs from over 40 countries competing in the preliminary rounds, 6 were shortlisted and invited to put their kitchen skills to the test—Lily Liu of Park Hyatt Hangzhou, Leandro Minelli of Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, Sebong Oh of Grand Hyatt Seoul, Jonathan Pasion of Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort, Thomas Progeas of Park Hyatt Paris-Vendôme and Robert Schielke of Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa.
During the finals, the six finalists were given a mystery black box, which contained ingredients that had to be incorporated into their dishes. Required to prepare an appetiser and a main dish, the ingredients inside the black box were Australian grass-fed cow, sustainably farmed barramundi, home-grown herbs from the rooftop of the Grand Hyatt Singapore, and organic vegetables from Malaysia—with Chef Pasion emerging champion. His creations included the Barramundi Tataki “Kilawin”, and Filipino Adobo Australian Grass-Fed Beef Cheeks.
This is not your run-of-the-mill competition, though. This annual challenge keeps the Hyatt Group competitive, and further elevates the quality of culinary excellence across all Hyatt brands.
More importantly, it highlights Hyatt’s commitment to sustainability and giving back to society. Apart from providing diners with healthy and nutritional options, they work with local farmers and suppliers, and often use organic produce in their culinary creations. We’re definitely excited to see what the Hyatt brand brings to the table next, but one thing’s for sure—we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for next year’s edition of The Good Taste Series.
Game to try it for yourself? Check out Hyatt Singapore’s list of restaurant offerings here.
It’s a new month! And, you know what that means? Chope’s Fresh Eats is back to get you hungry again! Satisfy your hunger pangs with 7 of our selected picks.
1. The Dragon Chamber
Hmm, fancy an evening of mystery and surprise? A night at this elusive speakeasy should do the trick. Read on closely, for what comes next will be the doorway to a magical evening.
You’ll find yourself first at a Kopitiam entrance. Sounds unlikely? The hostess then beckons you towards the beer fridge. What’s going on? Opening the unassuming fridge door will lead you into the secret world of the “Long Tang”, or as they call it, The Dragon Chamber.
The inner decor is reminiscent of old-school Hong Kong films with an ambience resembling the edgy gambling dens and secret society hangouts. You may be dubious but the underground speakeasy offers an unconventional menu of guerilla-style dishes. Have a go at the mighty Dragon’s Claw, a Crocodile Foot braised in Chinese herbs. Exuding a herbalicious taste, the meat is akin to the texture of chicken (so, cast those fears aside!), yet even more flavourful. If you’re up for an adventurous night, remember to give The Dragon Chamber a shot.

Warm lights and wooden furniture complete with earthy undertones now invite diners into the open-kitchen bistro, akin to stepping into the couple’s cosy home.
Even with a different ambience, you can still count on Cheek Bistro to dish out wholesome Australian fare, infused with the team’s characteristic bold flavours. Have a taste of the Beef Tartare, a casual spin on its former One Michelin-starred counterpart’s regular item.
